Medical experts are hailing a new early-warning system as a major breakthrough in diagnosing cancer patients.
The National Quality Assurance Intelligence System is being used to review and improve the accuracy of tissue testing when diagnosing cancer.
The system was established after a number of cases in the last decade where cancer was not spotted or was diagnosed too late.
Dr Niall Swan, who chaired the working group behind the programme, says it is a big step forward in the fight against cancer.
