Medical devices company to create 100 jobs
One hundred new high-skill jobs are to be created in Co Westmeath.
US medical devices company Teleflex is creating the jobs over the next three years at its operation in Athlone, bringing its Irish workforce to around 435.
The company, based outside Philadelphia, announced the expansion plans after a visit by Minister for Jobs Richard Bruton, who is on a five-day trade mission to the US.
Teleflex, which employs 176 people in Limerick and 160 in Athlone, makes medical devices at its Irish operations and has also research and development facilities here.
Minister Bruton said: “Medical devices is a key sector which we have targeted as part of the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs, and in the past three years we have seen an impressive jobs performance in this area.”
Benson Smith, Teleflex chief executive, said: “In the past seven years, Teleflex has worked closely with IDA Ireland to develop a successful operation for our international business.
“Our continued investment demonstrates our confidence that we can recruit and develop the talented people we will need to support the long-term growth of our company.”
Meanwhile, Ireland’s largest privately owned tech company Openet is to create 45 highly skilled jobs.
The expansion will be in two of its bases – 30 roles at its global headquarters in Dublin and another 15 at its Asian hub in Kuala Lumpur – offering graduate positions and senior technical and engineering positions.
Niall Norton, Openet chief executive, said: “We are delighted to be in a position to increase our employee numbers, locally and globally, to meet the needs of our customers.”
Openet global customers include AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, Bell and Vodafone.
