Medical Council to decide penalty for radiologist found guilty of poor professional performance

The Medical Council is to convene to decide what sanctions it will impose on a radiologist who was last night found guilty of poor professional performance.

The Council's Fitness to Practice Committee made the ruling against Dr Dawar Siddiqi.

It followed a five-day hearing into allegations about his time as radiologist at Bantry Hospital in Cork between May and September 2013.

The case centred on apparent errors into his reading of CT scans.

Reporter Liz Farsaci, who covered the committee hearings, said: “There is a range of sanctions that doctors face, it can be anything from writing a letter saying you are sorry, to a fine, to being struck off.”
