Medical cards for children in families receiving domiciliary care allowance approved

The Minister for Health has agreed to extend automatic medical cards to all children where families are in receipt of domiciliary care allowance.

Simon Harris announced the law change in a late sitting of the Dáil last night.

The Government originally planned to award the cards to around 10,000 children after the Budget.

However, Sinn Féin's motion to speed up the process received cross-party support yesterday.
