McFadden leading the way in Longford-Westmeath by-election

Gabrielle McFadden remains in the lead in the Longford Westmeath by-election.

With 40% of the boxes tallied, the Athlone Mayor has 26% of the vote so far, with Fianna Fail’s Aengus O’Rourke on 19%.

Independent councillor in Westmeath Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran is rounding out the top three with 17% of the vote.

Longford businessman James Morgan is doing well on 16% – but tallymen have said that is down to the fact that mostly Longford boxes have been opened first.

A first count is expected after lunch, with workers in Keenagh predicting a final result in time for 6pm.
