McDowell considering inquiry into Eddie Fullerton murder
Minister for Justice Michael McDowell has revealed that he is considering a possible public inquiry into the murder of a Sinn Féin councillor in Co Donegal 14 years ago.
Eddie Fullerton was shot dead by loyalist paramilitaries at his home in Buncrana in May 1991.
His family has been campaigning for a public inquiry amid claims that he was killed because he was about to expose corruption and collusion between the RUC, gardaí and the British military.
Mr McDowell was confronted about the matter by Mr Fullerton's sister at a function in Navan, Co Meath, last night.
He said he was considering whether there was enough evidence to warrant a public inquiry.
"If I found that there was a credible basis for suggesting that members of An Garda Síochána, as has been claimed, had anything to do with it, I would be the first to have an inquiry," he said.
