May temperatures break records

Temperatures have hit a recording-breaking high for the month of May.

Yesterday the mercury reached 28.3C in Ardfert, in Co Kerry, while at Shannon Airport temperatures rose to 27.8C, which broke the 1997 May record for the station.

And the fine, dry weather is expected to remain this weekend, although it will not be as warm today as it was yesterday.

Met Éireann forecaster Harm Luijkx said today would be especially sunny, though winds would increase.

"It will be sunny and dry…Inland it will be another day or 22C or 23C," he said.
