Marks and Spencer strike called off
Strike action planned for tomorrow at Marks and Spencer has been called off, after workers voted to accept a recommendation by the Labour Court.
The ruling means that workers and unions can now access the company's financial information, as they try to negotiate cost cutting plans.
Assistant General Secretary of the Mandate Trade Union Gerry Light says 97 per cent of workers agree with the ruling.
"Marks and Spencer don't publish their Irish accounts and one of the major obstacles we were confronted with in this particular dispute was we couldn't properly contextualise the company's agenda, with regard to its current trading position here in Ireland," he said.
"So, this will open up that flow of information here in Ireland which will enable the parties to sit down and reach some kind of satisfactory outcome in the near future."
