Man's body recovered from river in Cork

The body of a man was today recovered from the River Lee in Cork City, gardaí confirmed.

Witnesses reported seeing a car entering the water at Horgan Quay at around 8.30pm yesterday.

A search was conducted by Navy divers from the Naval base at Haulbowline assisted by local gardaí.

A garda spokeswoman said the body of the man, believed to be in his 20s, was recovered from the vehicle at around 2am.

Gardaí at Mayfield Garda Station have launched an investigation.

The discovery came just hours after the body of a man was recovered from a car that had been seen by witnesses driving of Cahore Pier, near Ballygarrett, Co Wexford, at around 8.15am yesterday.
