A man's body has been found in Lough Corrib in Co Galway following a major search for a missing fisherman.

A man's body has been found in Lough Corrib in Co Galway following a major search for a missing fisherman.

The missing man's empty fishing boat was found yesterday morning near Oughterard.

The discovery prompted a search of the lake involving the coastguard, local anglers and community members.

The body was discovered this afternoon near Camillaun Island, close to where the man set out.

The Garda Underwater Unit recovered the body, which has been transferred to Galway University Hospital.
