Man who repeatedly stabbed partner in Cork to be sentenced today

A man is due to be sentenced today for the attempted murder of his partner at their home in Ballyvoloon, Cobh, Co Cork.

Patrick O’Rourke tried to stab Donna Foster to death on the morning of August 11 last year after she told him she was in love with another man.

Patrick O’Rourke broke down in the stand earlier this month as he read a letter of apology to Ms Foster – his former partner and the woman he almost killed in the kitchen of the home they shared with their children.

A jury had been sworn in to hear his trial but he changed his plea at the last minute.

He broke down again last week – this time in the dock – as Ms Foster described to the court how his actions have affected her since.

She said he was convinced she was going to die that day and is still suffering, both physically and psychologically.

The court heard their relationship was breaking down at the time and that he attacked her with a knife after she told him that she didn’t love him anymore and was in love with someone else.

Mr. O’Rourke, who is 63, will be sentenced this morning.
