A man was shot in the legs after a masked gang burst into a house in Donegal, it was revealed today.

A man was shot in the legs after a masked gang burst into a house in Donegal, it was revealed today.

Gardaí said three men wearing balaclavas – two armed with handguns and one with a pickaxe handle – entered the property in St Johnston, Co Donegal, just after 9pm yesterday.

The victim was rushed to Letterkenny General Hospital where he is being treated for his injuries, which gardaí said are not life-threatening.

A garda spokesman said: “Two men and a woman in the house at the time were not injured.

“The men involved escaped in a white Cavalier car which belonged to the injured man and this was later found burnt out in Lifford.

“The scene at St Johnston and Lifford have been preserved for technical examination,” he said.

Gardaí at Letterkenny are investigating.
