A man has been shot dead on the northside of Dublin city.

A man has been shot dead on the northside of Dublin city.

The attack happened on Gateway Avenue, Ballymun about 8.45am.

It is understood the victim, who was in his 40s, was shot several times by a lone gunman, who then fled.

The injured man was brought to the Mater Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to contact Ballymun Garda Station on 01 6664400, the garda confidential line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
