In the incident, which took place at about 5.05am close to the junction of Camden St and Harrington St, the man was assaulted by another man, also in his 20s, who then ran from the scene.

The injured man was attended to by Dublin Fire Brigade personnel and brought to St James' hospital where his condition is described as serious.
