A man was rescued from treacherous rocks beneath the landmark Bunnyconnellan's pub in Myrtleville, Co Cork tonight.
The man raised the alarm just before 8pm when he realised he had become trapped on the rocks in darkness and couldn't make his way to safety.
He contacted the emergency services and a major search and rescue operation was launched.
Members of Crosshaven Coast Guard and Crosshaven RNLI rushed to the scene and the Coast Guard's Waterford-based Rescue 117 helicopter was tasked.

The helicopter crew used their aircraft's heat-seeking equipment to pinpoint the man's exact location, and then used its powerful search light to guide coast guard volunteers to where he was waiting.
Members of Crosshaven RNLI stood by offshore in case they were needed.
But when it was discovered that the man was uninjured, the Coast Guard team was able to escort him to safety and the operation was stood down.
It was not known why the man was in that area at that time.
