A 39-year-old man has appeared in court charged in connection with a fire in Co Kildare on Tuesday.

Daragh Ward with an address at 66, Millfield Manor is charged with doing damage to a house at Millfield Manor under section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Mr Ward has been remanded in custody to appear at Cloverhill District court next Wednesday.

Thirty-nine-year-old Mr Ward appeared in Dublin District Court this afternoon dressed in a black fleece hoodie.

Detective Maeve Ward of Newbridge Garda Station gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution yesterday.

The accused made no reply.

Det Ward applied to have the 39-year-old remanded in custody to appear in court again next Wednesday, April 8 at 10.30am.

No bail application was made.

Mr Ward’s lawyer asked that he get appropriate medical and psychiatric attention, to which the judge agreed.

An application for legal aid will be made at a later stage.
