Man recovers from surgery after face-bite attack at party

A man who had part of his face bitten off at a house party is recovering in hospital having undergone plastic surgery on his injuries.

Twenty-two-year-old Kelvin McLaughlin was forced to undergo extensive surgery following the brutal attack in Letterkenny, Co Donegal, which doctors fear will leave him scarred for life.

A man in his 20s was arrested but released without charge pending an investigation by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Speaking to Highland Radio, Kelvin's aunt Karen said it had been a very traumatic time for the family.

"The next day when he saw (his injuries), I could see tears in his eyes and he's not that sort of a person. He's really chilled and laid back," she said.

"I can really see this having a psychological effect on him.

"We're all just...shocked. I can't believe that someone would hold your face and bite you like that."
