A Polish man who skipped High Court bail during extradition proceedings seven years ago has been arrested in Co Leitrim living under an assumed name.

Krzysztof Szerega is wanted by the Polish authorities to serve out a four and a half year sentence for assault and robbery.

He was originally detained in Ireland on a European Arrest Warrant in October 2007 but a bench warrant was issued when he failed to appear for a court hearing in December of that year.

The 33-year-old has been remanded in custody after appearing in the High Court.
