A 55-year-old man has died in a house fire in Co Westmeath.

A 55-year-old man has died in a house fire in Co Westmeath.

Gardaí in Mullingar attended the scene at Jordanstown, Ballynacargy at around 3.30am.

The man was found dead and an 82-year-old woman, believed to be his mother, was taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar with injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

A technical examination is being carried out at the scene.
