A man has died after he was hit by a lorry in Co Monaghan overnight.

A man has died after he was hit by a lorry in Co Monaghan overnight.

The 24-year-old pedestrian was hit at around 2am at Drumquill on the Castleblaney to Annyalla Rd.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road remains closed this morning for a forensic examination and diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them in Castleblaney on 042 9740668, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
