A man in his 30s has died after his car was caught in floods in Co Offaly.
It is understood the man was driving near the village of Pollagh early this morning, when he crashed on a waterlogged stretch of road.
The car struck a bridge and entered a local river. His car was the only one involved in the accident.
The man was taken to Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore where he was pronounced dead. A post mortem is to be arranged.
The road was closed for a period of time to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators but has since reopened.
The man, who was 38, is the 11th person to die on Irish roads in the last week.
The youngest person killed was just seven years old. Jackson Turner, a primary school pupil at Sunnylands Primary School in Carrickfergus, Co Antrim died several hours after the crash between three cars in Newtownabbey yesterday evening.
