Man jailed for part in violent robbery where victim was thrown in Royal Canal


A 26-year-old man has been jailed for four years for his part in a violent robbery in which the victim was thrown into the Royal Canal.

Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard that when the victim was pulled out of the water, a second attacker kicked him in the face and smashed a beer bottle on his head.

Derek Waters of Berryfield Drive, Finglas pleaded guilty to robbery of a mobile phone in June, 2011.

Part of his sentence was suspended on condition that he is drug free on his release from prison.
