A man has been jailed for four years for holding almost half a million euro worth of drugs at his apartment in Dublin.
Brian O'Connor of Tyrconnell Road, Inchicore says he was paid €200 a week to store the drugs and spent all of it on alcohol.
On Feb 6, 2012, a Garda surveillance team spotted Brian O'Connor handing someone a package containing more than €137,000 worth of heroin.
A raid at his flat the following day resulted in the seizure of a stock pile of drugs, including cannabis, ecstasy and heroin worth over €360,000.
Following his arrest, the self-confessed alcoholic told Gardaí he was paid €200 a week to hold on to the drugs.
He told Gardaí he had been storing the drugs for up to six weeks and spent all the money he earned on drink in the pub below his flat.
Lawyers for O'Connor said their client leads a solitary existence and that his family in England are not aware he is in trouble.
The 57-year-old was handed a seven-year term today but Judge Mary Ellen Ring suspended the final three years in light of his co-operation with Gardaí.
