Man in hospital after being shot four times outside Dublin gym

A man has been shot at least four times in an attack at a gym on an industrial estate.

Gardaí said the victim, believed to be in his early 30s, was attacked at the Ballyboggan industrial estate in Finglas, north Dublin.

The shooting took place just before 11am at the Universal Warrior gym, which is owned and operated by bodybuilding champions Sean Enright and JJ Dunne.

Initial reports that the man had been killed were later clarified by the garda press office which confirmed he was shot several times and was being treated at the Mater hospital in Dublin.

The Ballyboggan industrial estate has dozens of businesses and is located just off Ballyboggan Road about 9km from the city centre.

The estate remained open following the shooting with a car park in front of the gym sealed off by gardaí.

Two black sports bags lay at the door to the fitness centre near where the shooting occurred.

The shooting follows a separate attack in Swords, north Dublin, yesterday when a man escaped uninjured in an attempted murder as he was leaving a gym.

It is understood the attacker’s gun jammed in the incident.
