Man in court over Limerick assault on off-duty garda

A man has appeared in court charged with assault causing harm to an off-duty garda in Limerick.

Michael Fitzgerald, of Clough-na-dromin, Ballysimon, Limerick, was remanded in custody with consent to bail on his own bond of €1,200 and an independent surety of €1,200.

The off-duty garda sustained a serious head injury after he was attacked on St Patrick's Road in Limerick, in the early hours of September 16 as he walked home with his wife.

A 15-year old boy is to appear in court later today, charged with stealing the victim's wife's handbag.
