Man hospitalised after being set alight in Limerick

A man is in hospital with serious burn injuries after being set alight by a gang of youths in Limerick last night.

A man is in hospital with serious burn injuries after being set alight by a gang of youths in Limerick last night.

The incident occurred somewhere between Limerick city and Dooradoyle in the early hours of this morning.

The Polish national has sustained burns to his face and hands as a result.

It is believed he was set upon by a group of youths who threw flammable liquid on him as he made his way home from a night out.

The man was initially brought to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital but was later transferred to the Intensive Care Unit of Cork University Hospital, where his condition has been described as serious but not life threatening.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to the incident to come forward.
