A man is in a serious condition in hospital after falling from scaffolding in Dublin city centre this afternoon.

A man is in a serious condition in hospital after falling from scaffolding in Dublin city centre this afternoon.

It is understood he was working on a building site on Trinity street when the incident occurred at about 1.20pm

A number of units of Dublin Fire Brigade and gardaí attended the scene.

An investigation has been launched by the Health and Safety Authority.

UPDATE (5.55pm): It was later confirmed that the man is aged in his 40s.

He had fallen several feet from scaffolding on a construction site to the street before a member of the public saw the incident and called for help.

He's now in St Vincent's hospital where he is being treated for serious head injuries which are understood to be serious, but non-life-threatening.

The site has been closed pending the outcome of examinations of the scene.
