A man in his 30s is due in court in the midlands this afternoon charged in connection with the discovery of a man's body in Athlone on Friday night.

A man in his 30s is due in court in the midlands this afternoon charged in connection with the discovery of a man's body in Athlone on Friday night.

The remains of 23-year-old Polish national Patryk "Paddy" Krupa were recovered from the River Shannon on Friday nmight.

Gardaí have made four arrests in connection with the investigation. A man in his 30s is due in court later today, a man in his 20s remains in Garda custody, while two other men were released this morning without charge.

Detectives had been examining reports that a man was attacked and bundled into a car at Lloyd's Lane in Athlone shortly after 8pm on Friday evening.

The accused will appear before a special sitting of Athlone District Court at 5pm today.
