Man due in court following car and rifle theft in Cork

A 27-year old man is due in court today after being arrested for carrying a loaded rifle on the outskirts of Cork city.

He was detained by Gardaí after he crashed a stolen Jeep on Spring Hill near Glanmire Church on Wednesday afternoon.

The man had stolen a car in Tipperary, which he crashed on the M8, before finding a Jeep in a field which had a rifle in the back.

He then drove the Jeep to Cork, stopping to buy diesel and crashing into a petrol pump while attempting to flee without paying.

He will appear before a special sitting of Cork District Court today.
