A man is due in court this morning charged with the murder of a 66-year-old woman in Dublin over the weekend.

Mary Dargan was shot dead at her home in Tallaght two days ago and her daughter was also injured in the attack.

Shortly after 4pm on Saturday afternoon, a gunman walked into Mary Dargan's semi-detached home at Killinarden Estate in Tallaght.

The 66-year-old grandmother was shot in the head and died instantly.

Her daughter, who is 34, was shot in the face and was treated for non-life threatening injuries in hospital.

Gardaí say a shotgun was recovered from the house and was taken away for tests.

A man in his 50s was arrested at the scene and he was also taken to hospital but was released back into Garda custody on Saturday night.

He has since been charged with Mary's murder and the attempted murder of her daughter and is due to appear before Dublin District Court later this morning.
