The body of a swimmer has been recovered this evening from Lough Leane in Killarney.

The body of a swimmer has been recovered this evening from Lough Leane in Killarney.

The 20-year-old, believed to be from the local area, was swimming in the lake with a friend when he got into difficulty.

The alarm was raised at around 6pm this evening.

The coastguard helicopter from Shannon, along with Ballybunnion Coastguard Unit were quickly dispatched to the scene.

The body of the man, believed to be in his 20s, was recovered by Killarney Water Rescue about an hour later.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
