A man has died after a crash on the M8 Cork to Dublin motorway.

A 28-year-old man has died in a two-vehicle crash on the M8 Cork to Dublin motorway.

The accident occurred on the northbound lane between Mitchelstown and Fermoy (Junctions 14 & 13) at approximately 2.40pm today

The man was fatally injured when the car he was travelling in and another car were in collision.

The female passenger was removed to Cork University Hospital with minor injuries.

The female driver of the second car, aged 71 years, was airlifted to CUH with serious injuries.

The M8, northbound between Junctions 13 and 14 is currently closed (at Kilworth and Mitchelstown) and local diversions are in place.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them at Fermoy Garda Station on 021 - 4522000, The Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
