A man in his mid-20s has died following a carjacking which lead to a crash in Dublin this morning.

A man in his mid-20s has died following a carjacking which lead to a crash in Dublin this morning.

At around 8.30am in the Dublin 8 area, a taxi driver was assaulted and forced out of his car by two men, both in their 20s.

15 minutes later the car was traveling on James's street when it collided with a pole.

The passenger was taken to St James's Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver was arrested at the scene and is being held at Kilmainham Garda station where he can be questioned for up to 24 hours.

The taxi driver's injuries aren't believed to be life-threatening.
