A man in his 60s has been killed after he was struck by a van in Killala, Co Mayo.

A man in his 60s has been killed after he was struck by a van in Killala, Co Mayo.

The accident happened on the Ballycastle Road at about 3.30am today.

The man was fatally injured when he was struck by a van. He was pronounced dead and his body remains at the scene. The driver of the van was uninjured.

The stretch of road is currently closed to facilitate an examination by Garda forensic collision investigators and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealling for witnesses who may have driven on the road this morning to contact Killala Garda Station on 096 32111, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
