Man denies fatal stabbing of Inchicore teenager

A 19-year-old Dublin man has gone on trial at the Central Criminal Court today, accused of stabbing a teenager to death in Inchicore.

Marcus Kirwan of Cooley Road, Inchicore denies murdering David Byrne at Emmet Court, on the night of March 19, 2011.

Prosecution counsel Denis Vaughan Buckley has described it as "a very tragic case"

Opening the two week trial he said there will be evidence that David Byrne was set upon and chased by four youths near the John Bosco Youth Centre after 10.30pm on the Saturday night in question.

One eyewitness will say that he saw the teenager running into a dead end at the Emmet Court apartment complex and another youth catching up with him and digging him in the back.

Emergency services were called, but the 19-year-old was pronounced dead within an hour, having been stabbed nine times.
