A 42-year-old man is in a critical condition after he was assaulted in Dublin city centre.

A 42-year-old man is in a critical condition after he was assaulted in Dublin city centre.

The assault happened on Montague Place near Pearse St. between 6.50pm and 8.30pm yesterday.

The man, who suffered serious head injuries, was taken by ambulance to St James' hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination and gardaí at Pearse Street are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
