A 26-year-old man has been remanded in custody after he was charged with assaulting a homeless man whose body was found dumped in a refuse chute in Cork earlier this month.

A 26-year-old man has been remanded in custody after he was charged with assaulting a homeless man whose body was found dumped in a refuse chute in Cork earlier this month.

David O'Loughlin- with an address at 10 City Gate Apartments, North Main Street in Cork was charged with assault causing harm to long term Simon Community resident, Liam Manley at City Gate Apartments on May 12th.

Mr Manley's body was found in a refuse chute at the Apartments on May 13 by a maintenance man when he went to clear rubbish which was building up in the chute.

The court heard that gardaí were seeking a week long remand in custody to obtain the DPP's directions in relation to Mr O'Loughlin.
