A 24-year-old man has been charged in connection with yesterday's robbery at Clogherhead post office in Co Louth.

A 24-year-old man has been charged in connection with yesterday's robbery at Clogherhead post office in Co Louth.

The man appeared before Drogheda District Court this morning at 10.30am.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear before Clover Hill District Court next Tuesday.

Two other men arrested in connection with the investigation remain in Garda custody, were detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939 as amended, at Drogheda and Dundalk Garda Stations.

The robbery occurred at approximately 11.45am when three men entered the post office, one armed with a sawn-off shotgun.

As they left the post office they were confronted by Gardaí. A 25-yea-rold man was arrested by gardaí attached to the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau.

A sawn-off shotgun and a quantity of cash were also recovered.

With the assistance of local Gardaí and the Regional Support Unit, two further men (aged 24 and 36 respectively) were arrested.

Gardaí are seeking witnesses to the incident, particularly anyone who was in the supermarket/post office between 11am and 12 midday.
