Man charged after Cavan stabbing
Gardaí have charged a man in his 50s in connection with the stabbing of a woman on Christmas Eve in Co Cavan.
The stabbing happened at a house in Kilnaleck, Co Cavan. The woman, who is in her 40s, is recovering in hospital.
The man is due to appear before a special sitting of Cavan District Court this evening at 5pm.
The man was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Cavan garda station. He remains in Garda custody.
The man who is believed to be a well known Republican, and served a sentence for a serious crime committed in the mid 1990s.
