A female pedestrian has died after being hit by a car in Hartstown, Dublin in the early hours of this morning.

A female pedestrian has died after being hit by a car in Hartstown, Dublin in the early hours of this morning.

Two women aged in their 40s were seriously injured when they were struck by a car on Hartstown Road at around 2.40am.

Both were taken by ambulance to Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown.

One of the women was later pronounced dead, the second remains in a serious condition.

The occupants of the car, three males aged in their 20s were uninjured in the collision.

The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving and taken to Blanchardstown Garda Station.

He was later charged and released to appear before a sitting of Blanchardstown District Court later this month.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators have examined the scene and the road has since reopened to traffic. The Coroner has been notified.

Gardaí investigating the circumstances of the collision are appealing for witnesses, they are particularly appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity of Hartstown Road at the time of the collision to contact them at Blanchardstown Garda Station 01-6667000 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
