A 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing of a Dublin intercounty footballer.

A 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing of a Dublin intercounty footballer.

Jonny Cooper, who is aged 24, was stabbed a number of times on Dorset Street Upper near Dublin city centre.

The attack happened in the early hours of September 20.

The man in custody is being held at Mountjoy Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Gardaí are also renewing their appeal for any witnesses to contact them.
