A man has been arrested by gardaí investigating an aggravated burglary on the home of a 96-year-old woman in Donegal, it has emerged.

A man has been arrested by gardaí investigating an aggravated burglary on the home of a 96-year-old woman in Donegal, it has emerged.

Greta Lilly was punched in the ribs and gagged during the robbery in Buncrana in the early hours of Saturday morning and is still being treated at Letterkenny General Hospital.

A 48-year-old man was arrested yesterday evening. He is being questioned today at Buncrana Garda station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Buncrana Gardaí (074-9320540) continue to appeal for any information about the incident.

A local businessman has offered a €5,000 reward for information leading to a successful prosecution.

Ms Lily had been saving to put new windows in her home before being burgled and several thousand euro was stolen.

A fund has been set up in the local credit union to support the injured pensioner.
