Two people were arrested tonight in connection with a double murder in south Dublin.

Gardai were questioning the man and woman about the shooting dead last month of Eddie Ward and Brian Downes in the Walkinstown area of the city.

They were attacked on October 5 as they walked along the Greenhills Road.

Up to 10 shots were fired during the incident and the attackers fled on a motorcycle, which was dumped in the Grand Canal near Bluebell.

A garda spokesman said: “Gardai investigating the fatal shooting of Brian Downes and Edward Ward on October 5 last arrested a man and a woman in Dublin today.

“They are being detained at Crumlin and Sundrive Road Garda stations under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences against the State.”
