14/07/2009 - 14:09:37
A Cork man has pleaded guilty to depriving a woman of medical treatment by masquerading as a doctor.

The 32-year-old man, who can not be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty on day four of his trial to recklessly endangering the woman by masquerading as a doctor and purporting to treat her medical condition on dates between August and October 2006.

He also pleaded guilty to assaulting the woman causing her harm on two dates in October.

The woman told prosecuting counsel, Mr Paul Coffey SC, during the trial that the man told her he was a doctor when they met and performed two "procedures" on her during their short relationship, declaring her "cured".

She said that she was treated in hospital and had a tumour removed days after the relationship ended.

Mr Justice Peter Charleton remanded the man in custody until July 21 next when he will be sentenced and full facts will be heard in the case.

Mr Justice Charleton discharged the jury and thanked them for their attention during the trial.
