A 74 year old man has died in a house fire in Rathcormac, Co Cork.

A 74 year old man has died in a house fire in Rathcormac, Co Cork.

It is not yet clear how the blaze started but gardai say they're not treating it as suspicous.

Fire crews are still at the scene - and the street remains closed.

Three units of the fire brigade were called to the fire in the North Cork village after the alarm was raised at around 7.45pm yesterday evening.

The man's body was found inside the house. His remains have now been taken to Cork University Hospital, where a post mortem will be carried out later.

The scene has been preserved and a technical exam will be conducted this morning.

Fire crews are still at the scene and will remain on site until the area is made safe.
