Man, 18, dies in Tipperary crash involving stolen car

An 18-year-old man has died in a single-vehicle crash in Co Tipperary.

An 18-year-old man has died in a single-vehicle crash in Co Tipperary.

The teenager was driving along the Birr Rd, near Roscrea, with one other passenger at about 1.55am this morning when the car hit a wall.

Gardaí are now appealing for witnesses to the crash. Investigators say the black BMW car involved in the crash had been stolen shortly before the accident.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body has been removed to Limerick Regional Hospital, where a post mortem will be held.

His 16-year-old passenger was seriously injured in the accident, and was also taken to Limerick Regional hospital.

The road is currently closed for a forensic examination and diversions are in place via the Montevideo Road.
