Cigarettes worth €2.9m have been seized at Dublin Port, it has emerged.
Officers from Revenue found the 7.6 million contraband cigarettes yesterday.
The "Capital" and "Master" brand cigarettes arrived into Dublin Port from Zeebrugge in Belgium in a shipment described as "furniture".
They were discovered by Revenue officials when the consignment was examined, following routine scanning by Revenue’s mobile scanner.
An Irish-registered commercial vehicle and a trailer were seized and the driver was interviewed.
Investigations are ongoing both nationally and internationally.
