Main parties told to 'stop acting like children and grow up'

Talks between Fine Gael and Independents have adjourned for the weekend.

They will meet again next week to discuss documents in key areas which Acting Taoiseach Enda Kenny has described this evening as a possible foundation for a Programme for Government.

Fianna Fáil will meet with Independents next week as it makes efforts to form a minority Government.

Enda Kenny said that his party would not support Fianna Fáil from Opposition.

"I've been very clear about that and obviously we've worked very diligently now over the last five days in respect of working with independents and groups in putting together what I believe will be a very strong foundation document for partnership in Government," he said.

Independent TDs remain adamant that Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil should be talking to each other this weekend, however.

"I think the pussyfooting should finish," said Roscommon Galway TD, Michael Fitzmaurice.

"They should get on with it, and not be like children and grow up.

"This is about forming a Government. Whether they like it or not, it's about one supporting the other, even in a minority Government.

"It has to be done, it's part of the process."
