The Mahon Tribunal has turned out to be slightly cheaper than expected.

The Public Accounts Committee has heard that the Tribunal of Inquiry Into Certain Planning Matters and Payments - named after its chairman Alan Mahon for short - is now estimated to have cost €159m.

That's almost 20% lower than the costs previously estimated by the Department of the Environment.
