Mahon Tribunal 20% cheaper than expected

Judge Alan Mahon

The Mahon Tribunal has turned out to be slightly cheaper than expected.

The Public Accounts Committee has heard that the Tribunal of Inquiry Into Certain Planning Matters and Payments - named after its chairman Alan Mahon for short - is now estimated to have cost €159m.

That's almost 20% lower than the costs previously estimated by the Department of the Environment.
