Mahon report passed to DPP: Kenny

The Government has referred on the final report of the Mahon Tribunal to the Garda Commissioner, DPP, Revenue Commissioners and the Standards in Public Office Commission.

The Taoiseach has also confirmed that the findings will be debated over a three-day period in the Dáil, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The report published today rejected Bertie Ahern's version of the source of his finances, saying he failed to truthfully account for the source of lodgements made to his bank account.

The report made no finding of corruption against the former Taoiseach.

However, the tribunal concluded that a number of senior political figures did accept corrupt payments in relation to planning matters.

It found former Minister and European Commissioner Padraig Flynn and former TD Liam Lawlor were among those to seek inappropriate payments.

The Garda Siochana also comes in for criticism in the report.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny admits he was shocked by some of the contents.

"It clearly sets out corrupt practices a number of politicians," he said.
